High Street History Walking Tour

SoWe is Sponsoring A History Walking Tour of the 400 and 500 Blocks of High Street
New research by Jim Gerhart, SoWe’s volunteer historian, allows us to visualize what High Street was like in 1850, when most of the rest of Cabbage Hill was still forest and farmland.
Come and walk with Jim and hear about the 30 houses that were on High Street in 1850 and the 37 families that lived in them. Ten of the 30 houses are still present, including a log house that is the oldest surviving house on the Hill. Also learn about the challenging living conditions on 1850 High Street.
Two dates for the tour are being offered:
- Saturday, October 8, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
- Sunday, October 9, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
The tour will start at the intersection of High Street and West Strawberry Street. The tour is free, and is first come, first served. Attendance will be limited to about 15 people per date.
